I have searched for a genuinely small 5G phone for two years. The Jelly Max is it. Fits in my shirt pocket, my watch pocket, my cycling jersey — everywhere. 5G speed is real and fast. At 180g this is perfect for cycling. Mounted on my handlebars with the Unihertz bike mount, it runs Strava, navigation, and music simultaneously without lag. The Dimensity 7300 handles everything smoothly. Battery with moderate cycling use lasts my full weekend rides. The 66W charger fills it completely before my next ride. Nothing else in this size does what this does.
I travel internationally twice a month and the Jelly Max changed my travel setup completely. I bought this as a secondary work phone for my travel SIM. The 100MP camera takes remarkably good photos in good light and the 3.4x optical zoom is genuinely useful for candid shots. 5G and Wi-Fi 6 are both fast. My only minus is the HD+ screen — not Full HD — which is noticeable when watching video. For calls, comms, and photography it is excellent.
I have a wrist injury and large phones have been painful to use. The Jelly Max at 128mm tall is genuinely comfortable in one hand for hours. Everything works — all the apps I use daily, 5G connectivity, NFC payments, good camera. My colleagues keep asking what phone I have. Three of them have since ordered one from Unihertz SA.
The 66W charging is remarkable for a small phone. I put it on charge while I shower and it is at 90% when I get out. Perfect for someone who forgets to charge overnight. The 100MP camera produces genuinely excellent photos for the size. The transparent back is eye-catching and practical — I always know it is in my bag because of the LED notifications showing through.
Most smartphones are too large for children's hands. The Jelly Max at 5 inches is genuinely comfortable for my daughter. She uses it for school, WhatsApp with family, and photos. The 100MP camera means her school project photos come out beautifully. The 5G means it will stay relevant for years. A brilliant first smartphone.
The Jelly Max does everything well for its size but the 720p HD+ screen is noticeably less sharp than Full HD phones at this price. For calls, WhatsApp, and quick browsing it is fine. For reading small text or watching video I notice the lower resolution. If you primarily use your phone for productivity and communication, this is excellent. If you watch a lot of video, manage expectations on screen quality.
Every phone for the past 5 years has been 6.5 inches plus. I missed small phones. The Jelly Max is the only modern 5G phone that is genuinely small and genuinely capable. The 100MP main sensor and 3.4x optical zoom produce travel photos I previously needed a separate camera for. Zoomed shots are sharp and detailed. Portrait mode is excellent. The small form factor means I always have it in my pocket when a photo opportunity arises. The transparent back is beautiful and unique. An extraordinary camera phone for its size.
